A marriage or cohabitation agreement is not about expecting the worst. It is about deciding things calmly now, while you still can.
A marriage contract (before or during marriage) and a cohabitation agreement (for common-law couples) let partners decide in advance how property and support will be handled if the relationship ends. A cohabitation agreement automatically becomes a marriage contract if the couple later marries.
These agreements can address property division and spousal support. They cannot pre-decide decision-making responsibility or parenting time for children, and they cannot remove a spouse's right to possession of the matrimonial home.
An agreement negotiated well in advance, with full disclosure and separate lawyers, is far harder to attack later. One rushed through at the last minute invites exactly the dispute it was meant to prevent.

Book a Consultation
